Tesseract is run through command lines like "tesseract phototest.tif output batch", usually applied in a batch file. One can easily integrate it with The vOICe (which does not generate greyscale BMP files itself) via its open interface, by using the following command lines in 

recognize.bat, 
djpeg -greyscale -bmp vOICe.jpg vOICe.bmp tesseract vOICe.bmp vOICe batch move /Y vOICe.txt vOICe.ocr
